I bought this DVD after remember how much watching this film on TV terrified me. And yes, it worked the second time too. It’s kind of like a better made and acted Hellraiser without the spiritual rubbish and all those cool ghost stories. It’s almost like a Ghost Ship in space (not quoting the film). It is incredibly atmospheric and you’ll know pretty much all of the actors in it (Sam Neill, Sean Pertwee and Jason Isaacs). The soundtrack is also excellent and adds more to the atmosphere of this surreal film.

The balance between British and American characters plus an Australian also makes this film better for me because you get a little tired of having an all American cast in big films, no matter how good they are. The acting in the film is good as a consequence in this, all of these good actors being up to their full standards. As for the storyline, well, it doesn’t get any better than a ship getting sucked down a black hole and coming back with an evil entity onboard which killed its crew and is bent on killing the rescue crew too. The Event Horizon is a stunning ship and the Gravity Drive is a stunning looking device to go in its heart – it’s no wonder that Dr. Weir became obsessed with it.

But this film is a good example of how obsessions can become deadly, so watch out. The dark entity starts to make its presence known and eventually takes over Dr. Weir and kills most of the crew. It involves some fantastic scenes such as Justin depressurising in the air lock and some guy on a ship log recording pulling out his entrails though his mouth. Sounds gory? Yeah, it is, but don’t let that put you off even if you really need to have a strong stomach for it. The end of the film gives nothing away, maybe because they might have done a sequal. It leaves you wondering if the entity is still here, but that’s for the viewer to wonder about.

This Film is well worth watching despite the bad reviews and poor box office as Paul W.S. Anderson offers us not just “Infinite Space” as well as “Infinite Terror”, Just as the Poster Promises.

from the Paramount Logo to the closing credits i was enthralled by this terryfying film that is not only a nice piece of storytelling but is scarier than ALIEN (The Scares in this film still got me after the 4th time of watching it – The Sign of a Good Horror Film)

If you want scares as well as an intruiging story about a haunted House with a Difference (It’s set in Space for Gods Sake) then this is the film for you.

“Hell is Only a Word. The Reality is much much Worse!!”

    You’d better believe it.

It’s a shame amazon can only do 5 Stars, I’d Like to give this a 10.

I’m an Alien film fan, I enjoy a deep space claustrophobic scientific scare. Event Horizon is one of only a few films that has genuinely gave me a chilling unsettling fright and uneasy dreams – its Hellraiser (or Hellraiser as it should have been) in space. Wonderful horror concept, suspenseful, great characters, wonderful atmospheric detail. Great sci-fi movie, great horror movie.

Event Horizon is one of those films that falls victim to the Marmite effect. Some utterly hate it while personally I love it as for me it easily ranks among the best horror movies of the 90′s.

In the year 2047 a signal has been detected from the research vessel event horizon, which disappeared on it’s maiden voyage years earlier. Captain miller and his crew accompanied by Dr. weir, the lost ships designer, head towards the signals source with hopes of salvaging the craft and learning just where it has been for all these years. Upon arrival on the ship they find the crew missing and the ship badly damaged, however these are just the beginning of their problems as the event horizon hasn’t come back alone.

Event horizon proves to be a very bleak experience, amidst the cold and claustrophobic atmosphere of the ship, which adds greatly to the film, the harrowing trip proves to be enthralling particularity as the crew become consumed by their fears. The slow drip fed tension building up intermingled with lashings of gore proves frightfully entertaining. The actors give fine performances in their respective roles particularity Sam Neil whose decent into madness is disturbingly good. The special effects have aged fairly well and still stand up more than a decade on.

The film, quite obviously, borrows from older science fiction and horror classics like Alien and the Haunting, but despite this it has it’s own unique identity making it so damn good, standing out in the horror crowd.

This special edition contains commentary for director Paul Anderson and producer Jeremy Bolt which is an interesting enough listen giving some deep insight into the film and the pair still clearly bubbling with enthusiasm about the end product. On the second disc is the 5 part feature length documentary on the making of event horizon, well worth a watch giving insight into studio problems with excessive gore and the cuts that were to follow. A variety of deleted scenes, storyboard sequences and art montages, and a small feature on the trailer.

Defiantly worth checking out if your a fan of the genre, bearing in mind it does borrow from some classic sources but it establishes itself. It’s influences can still be seen today in the likes of Sunshine [2007] and Dead Space (PS3). Overall a great DVD backing up a suspenseful, eerie and gory horror film.

CAUTION…Read this before watching. It is as brilliant a film as it is darkly disturbing.Mature audiences only. It’s about a space crew who investigate the disappearance of another team aboard the `Event Horizon`.Eventually while on board they discover the brutal demise that occured with the other crew and become aware the same fate awaits.

As I said,I warn anyone watching this movie to refrain if you are easily rattled.I myself am hardcore horror fan and I had to sleep with the lights on.

Happy to see this arrive on Blu Ray as it’s one of my all time favorite Sci-Fi/ Horror films, For those who’ve not seen it it’s about an experimental spacecraft which went missing 11 years ago and has now reappeared minus it’s crew, a rescue mission is sent to investigate the ships mysterious reappearance along with the ships designer with catastrophic results.

Although it sounds like your usual space fodder it’s more of a thriller/horror as there’s no vicious alien’s roaming the ship tearing people apart instead the ship turns people on themselves.

I have to say to this day this is still a film which sends chills down my spine especially when watched alone at 2 in the morning with the lights off. The ships gothic atmosphere makes the film even more foreboding while Sam Neil & Laurence Fishburne along with the rest of the cast give great performances as the ill fated rescue crew.

As to the Blu Ray conversion the sound is excellent when turned up it really thunders and the picture quality is excellent you can pick out the excellent detail in the ship that you would never have noticed before all in all 10/10.

I had never heard of this movie till very recently , was searching Amazons listings for a Dvd to watch – when up popped EVENT HORIZON , I collect dvds so naturally I opted for this 2 disc special edition ,and boy am I glad I came across this movie – I thought it was excellent

The story is excellent and full of suspence , The Event Horizon is a manned spaceship that was sent out to explore deep space , suddenly during its mission it DISAPPEARS of the radar , it is reported by the space authorities that the EVENT HORIZON exploded in deep space during its mission ,and was destroyed with all hands on deck .FAST-FORWARD seven years and the EVENT HORIZON is BACK ,it has mysteriously re-appeared and is stranded in deepest space .A salvage crew + the ships maker/designer is immediately dispatched with orders to recover the ship and its crew , and to try and find out what exactly had happened to the EVENT HORIZON ,so now our story REALLY BEGINS

The movie is very tense andatmospheric in places ,and there is a few jump out of your seat moments ,it combines the elements of HORROR & SCI-FI very well indeed ,and just for good measure theres also a few gory scenes in the movie , the story takes a few nice twists ,and it really keeps you guessing as to whats gonna happen next. The casting is superb , Sam Neill and LAWERENCE FISHBURNE are especially good , and for a movie made in 1997 the SPECIAL FX and SET DESIGNS are great – the interior and exterior of the EVENT HORIZON really looks amazing and so does the ZERO GRAVITY FX , the SFX are even more impressive when you consider that this movie was made at PINEWOOD not HOLLYWOOD :) , but dont let that put you off, cos EVENT HORIZON is a very stylish looking movie .

HIDDEN GEM OF THE SCI-FI HORROR GENRE ….. BUY IT – AND DISCOVER WHERE EVENT HORIZON WENT & WHY ITS CAME BACK !

It may not be the greatest film ever but then again it doesn’t try to be. The special effects aren’t great compared to what’s around now, and maybe the plot isn’t the best but it still works. I think laurence fishburne gives a great preformance as captian miller and sam neill gives a great preformance as dr. wier. The two just seems to really work and the supporting cast are good aswell. Some of it is a little predictable but it doesn’t really spoil the film. Overall it is still a good film, I personally would say great, and is definatley worth watching.
