Good film, enjoyable to watch and entertaining. Bit of a political hot potato about WMD but I am glad to of brought it. Similar to Bourne with out the super agent.

I personally thought this was an excellent movie, it offers significantly more than the usual run of the mill action movies with a gripping plot of political intrigue set against the backdrop of the second Iraq invasion by US forces and specifically their search for weapons of mass destruction. Matt Damon as always is first class as is the supporting cast including amongst others Greg Kinnear and the superb Jason Isaacs. Visually the film looks great and the production team have done an excellent job recreating Iraq, it looks very convincing.

If you liked Bourne and The Hurt Locker, I can't see you not liking this movie. It has the visual style of the former, and the gritty realism of the latter. The sense of being in the thick of the action is startling - at times, you can almost taste the dust. A thrilling ride from start to finish.

Never mind that this is fiction, it cuts very close to the bone in terms of the dishonesty of Bush and Cheney's shenanigans in hoodwinking the American population into believing the war in Iraq was justified and would be a cakewalk. It's a good story; the uncovering of a dodgy dossier interwoven with plenty of on screen action and a great performance from the ever reliable Matt Damon.

The only fly in the ointment for me was the orchestra arrangement in the background during the final tense scenes, which I found a little hammy and distracting.

I think the film should be seen for what it was, i.e. pure entertainment. It clearly echoes a very sad period in American foreign policy, but this is Paul Greengrass at work. It's for action seekers, not history buffs (even if it is closer to the truth than any spin from our earnest politicians).

You've had Armando Iannucci's excellent niche screwball comedy vision of the 2003 Iraq invasion with In the Loop. Here it is finally given the mainstream action movie treatment in Paul Greengrass's Green Zone.

First and foremost this is a smashing action thriller. From Bloody Sunday to Bourne to United 93, no other director is able to create the levels of energy, tension and momentum like Greengrass. His handheld, improvised shooting style is often derided, but the necessary details in the scene - be it the plot's elusive book, or a crucial dangling earpiece - are always photographed and edited together with a level of clarity that none of his imitators can manufacture, or indeed his talent for streamlining a narrative down to its rawest essentials (both qualities missing from the cheap Bourne impostor Quantum of Solace.)

Secondly, Matt Damon does a fine job as the honest and decent Roy Miller. Many people have dismissed this film as Bourne in Iraq, and while it's certainly a fair comparison given how easily Damon slips back into his truthseeker-against-the-state persona, the level of understated credibility he lends to a role like this, diffuses any potential pitfall for the movie to descend into silly, distasteful, blindly nationalistic heroics. The key difference though is that with each new contact and offscreen development in Washington, Miller's doomed quest for WMDs, takes him further and further in over his head with only a gun to save him, but without the superhuman martial arts skills of his CIA assassin forebearer.

Of course, the dealbreaker with the viewer's relationship to a film this damning of the Iraq War's founding thesis, isn't the divisive nature of 'The Shakycam', the success of the action sequences, or the strength of the performances - which, from Damon's lead to Greg Kinnear's slithery politician and the imposing figure of Yigal Naor's Ba'athist general, are universally excellent - but their individual assessment of the Bush-Blair claim that Iraq posed an imminent threat to the West. Still, for the sake of critical integrity, there are a few dramatic flaws worth noting. Portions of on-the-nose dialogue too heavily convey the filmmakers' politics. It's also true that none of the action set pieces live up to the best of Bourne, either in terms of combat or chases (there's nothing like Ultimatum's bathroom fight or Supremacy's breathless Moscow taxi sequence).

But let's not lose sight of what has been achieved in Green Zone. Greengrass, Damon and writer Brian Helgeland have put the Dodgy Dossier scandal, not in the hands of some small scale contemplative drama with no box office ambitions, but right smack-bang in the centre of mainstream cinema, a provocative statement in itself which says that the premise the public were sold to go to war turned out to be so uncontroversially untrue, that you can make an action blockbuster out of with broad audience appeal. The fact that even with Green Zone's enticing thriller package, it still failed to secure box office success, with audiences preferring to spend time with Alice in Wonderland than face the reasons their soldiers were sent to Baghdad, says more about them than any angry polemical can.

But many films do regain their losses in the home entertainment market, and there's no reason why this can't. If you liked the anti-establishment streak of the Bourne series, if you like conspiracy thrillers such as State of Play, if you want a braver and more comprehensive version of Iraq than the solitary portrait of The Hurt Locker, and if you want to see the ballsiest post-9/11 movie since United 93, then see Green Zone.

The Green Zone is that rarest of films--a well-written, rousing action thriller with a political conscience that perceptively deconstructs the idiocy of war. From the very first scene, the action grabs you and throttles you for the ensuing two hours--although the story is fairly complex, the exposition is handled deftly, and--despite the constantly jolting camera work--it's pretty easy to follow along with what's happening. Matt Damon delivers a strong performance as an Army Warrant Officer who truly cares about the justifications for his actions--he has no problem being a good soldier, as long as he knows that there are clear moral reasons behind what he's been ordered to do. Unfortunately, during the early days of the Iraq War, clear moral reasons were in very short supply, and Damon's character battles an array of competing military and political agendas as he searches for the truth behind the military's search for the ever-elusive Weapons of Mass Destruction rumored to be hidden in Iraq. This film is so well done, and Damon is so good in it, that I'm starting to consider the Greengrass/Damon tandem on a par with the Scorsese/DeNiro and Scorsese/DiCaprio pairings. Damon's best work (the last two Bourne films and this one) has come with Greengrass at the helm--here's to hoping they make many more fine films together.

Set a few years ago Matt Damon heads a team assigned to search potential WMD sites. Having found nothing he begins to increasingly question the source and gets dragged into an escalating tussle between opposing US government interests. As he gets closer to the intel source events only get more frantic.

Matt Damon gives the impression he chooses his scripts carefully and this again was a great choice. Authentic, fast moving and intruiging it kept me wanting to know what would happen next throughout.

Solid entertaining movie.

green zone has to be one of the best action films i have ever seen. paul greengrass and matt damon are fast turning into another great cinematic pairing, like martin scorsese and robert deniro, martin scorsese and leonardo dicaprio and tim burton and johnny depp. paul greengrass in my opinion is a genius, and one of the best action movie directors around at the moment, with united 93, the bourne supremecy and the bourne ultimatum, which was about as perfect as an action movie can get, and now the amazing green zone. this is quite simply a breathtaking action thriller with great performances. who would have thought that matt damon from good will hunting 10 years ago would suddenly and seemingly overnight with the bourne films turn into an action star? the story has been accused of being a bit simplistic, and while we all know the outcome of the hunt for the infamous weapons of mass distruction, it doesn't spoil an absoultely gripping film. can't rate this highly enough, it's early days i know, but so far this is the film to beat in 2010. can't wait to see what greengrass comes up with next!

Great movie! Has a very good plot and the action is just as good. The only bad thing I could say about this movie is that the controversial plot might deter some people.
