Product Description
The return of Tony Stark, in the guise of Robert Downey Jr, in Iron Man 2 proves to be a welcome one. For Downey Jr utterly owns the dual role of Stark and Iron Man, and in this entertaining superhero sequel, he’s given a tricky nemesis to fight. The foe is Mickey Rourke’s Ivan Vanko, introduced properly in a staggering action sequence set at Historic Grand Prix of Monaco. Director Jon Favreau stages this superbly, and Iron Man 2 manages to pack plenty into its opening 40 minutes as a result. The foot does go off the gas, though, in the middle part of the film, when Iron Man 2 does get bogged down by a few too many characters and plot points. But there’s regularly something to keep the attention up, before all bets are off for the entertaining finale. Iron Man 2 may not be a perfect sequel, but it’s certainly a good one. And it’s a thorough and rigorous home cinema workout, too. Boasting spectacular visuals and a thunderous surround sound mix, the Blu-ray edition of the film is a thrilling ride, and the best way to enjoy an already-worthwhile movie. --Jon Foster

anyone expecting iron man 2 to be a non stop action film is going to be very dissapointed with this film. it’s slow, but it’s also a very well made and well acted film and an enjoyable sequel almost as good as the original. robert downey junior leads a terrific cast on fine form. gwyneth paltrow returns from the original as well, and samuel l jackson makes his first proper appearence in the series after appearing after the end credits of the original iron man as nick fury. mickey rourke, sam rockwell and scarlett johannsenn are also all excellent, and don cheadle does a great job replacing terrance howard. it’s worth hanging around after the end credits just for a brief sneek peek at the hammer of thor, presumably introducing the thor movie. while there aren’t many action scenes, the film does build up to an excellent climax. roll on iron man 3 and the avengers!

i had high high expectations for this film, since the first one was so good.i’m happy to say i wasn’t disappointed.there is more going on this one that much is certain.Sam Jackson returns as Nick Fury head of Shield in a expanded role.Mickey Rourke plays a baddie(with relish and gusto)Scarlett Johanssen’s character is underwritten and underutilized, which is unfortunate, because the character is rife with potential.here’s hoping they remedy that situation in the upcoming avengers film.Sam Rockwell has an interesting role.Don Cheadle replaces Terrance Howard as Lt.Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes, and i have to say,i think he is a better fit.and of course Robert and Gwyneth return as Pepper and Tony.and we finally get to know Pepper’s actual first name.for me,Iron Man 2 is a 5/5

Robert Downey Jr was the best reason to watch the first Iron Man film since he seemed to slide into the role of Tony Stark so flawlessly and effortlessly. RDJ is just as amusing and fun to watch in Iron Man 2. If there were any doubts left over from RDJ’s portrayal of Tony Stark from the first film, they’re inevitably washed away with his convincing performance in the sequel. Newcomers Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, and Scarlett Johansson are just as impressive. Rourke has been on an incredible streak since The Wrestler and puts in another solid performance here. His Russian accent is pretty spot on and he shows a wider range of emotion than you may not be expecting. Rockwell has been on my “actors to keep an eye on” radar since Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. I thoroughly enjoyed his smarmy performance as Hammer, who has all of the tools at his disposal to make as big of an impact on the world as Tony Stark has only to wind up falling short in the long run. The flirting between Tony and Johansson’s Natalie Rushman is pretty captivating, but her crowning achievement is her fight scene in the latter half of the film that practically steals the show. Don Cheadle does have a few humorous one-liners and is great as War Machine, but doesn’t really add anything that Terrence Howard already established with the role in the first film. It’s slightly disappointing since Cheadle is known for his strong acting roles, but may be a result of the way the Capt. James Rhodes character was written for both films.
While the film is a worthy sequel, it does contain a few small flaws. What is it with Hollywood films lately having the climactic battle during the finale last five minutes or less? Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Clash of the Titans, and Iron Man 2 all share this trait. It doesn’t take away from the fact that the conclusion to Iron Man 2 is still pretty satisfying, but my mindset seems dead set on thinking it’s more satisfying when the antagonist has the advantage. He or she gains the upper hand and there’s that moment where you think they may bring their evil plan to fruition before the protagonist outsmarts the antagonist for the win. When that last battle seems short, it makes it seem like the villain was all talk. Speaking of the action sequences though, they’re spectacular and twice as big as the action in the original film. The problem is that the action seemed to get blurry during several of the more hefty action scenes. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s the way it was shot or what, but it made it seem like there was too much going on in the film to fully process in post-production or something.
Iron Man 2 is an extremely satisfying sequel on all accounts. While the original film is probably slightly better, the sequel does everything right and doubles up on everything in comparison; action, strong characters, teases for upcoming Marvel films, etc. Despite some of its early negative criticism, Iron Man 2 delivers a worthwhile sequel with a fantastic cast and spectacular action.

I really enjoyed Iron Man 1 and was very excited about seeing this. and i thought it was a very well deserved sequel it had everything that the first had and in some cases more. The same humor was there the great relationship between characters, even the new ones. I thought MOST of the story was good with Starks relationship with his father and the Justin Hammer part was brilliant and Don Cheadlre is a much better Rhodey that Terrance Howard!
The only thing that did bother me a bit was Whiplash although i thought Mickey rourke’s performance was great i just thought that they either could have chosen a more itresting villian or made Whiplash a given more of an intresing character devolpment, as he starts out to be quie the main foucus of the film (before and at the monaco race) and then we dont see or hear THAT much of him until the end fight. and i think this made the film more of a sequel than anything else and didnt really give it any legs to help it stand as an story seprate from the first.
But i did like the film and think it is one to see, as long as you’ve seen the first!

Iron Man 2 was a really great movie – not as good as Iron Man 1 but pretty close.
What annoys me is it appears that if I want to buy this on BluRay in England, I have to buy the version that has a Bluray disc, a DVD disc AND a digital copy all together. It seems that this is becoming a common theme now , as I recently bought the superb ‘Up’ movie on Bluray and it only came in an edition that included the DVD copy.
Fine, if you need more than one format, I understand…but it was impossible to buy JUST the Bluray version as the combined one was the only version available in the UK. It is infuriating that the price of these dics is so high anyway ( how much does it cost to make one of these things….£1 or so?) but it seems the manufacturers still view the UK as ‘Treasure Island’ and bump the price way up on the pretence that we’re getting 3 versions of a film.
And then they bleat about piracy……
No doubt the Bluray of Iron Man 2 will be outstanding….I just wish they’d quit treating us like idiots and stop milking every penny from us that they can….

Before I’d even seen this film I was being bombarded with negative feedback from others. People said Iron Man 2 had lost it’s magic, that it was boring, not as good as the first – the same old stuff you usually hear. And I admit that between the time of hearing the negativity and going to watch the movie, I was a little worried. I wasn’t convinced that the movie was going to be ‘bad’ in any sense of the word. ‘Bad’ movies in my list are things like Twilight and I couldn’t believe that Favreau would really bring disappointment to that degree. But, like I said, I was a little worried.
After seeing this film three times now, I can safely say that it delivers. It’s funny, it tells a convincing story of Tony Stark six months on from Iron Man, it has plenty of action (Action doesn’t just mean people shooting each other you know) and the entire cast was brilliant. There wasn’t a single bad actor in this. As always the visuals were stunning and it is an exciting film.
Despite what people have said the character of Tony Stark is, thanks to great writers and superb Robert Downey Jr, just as funny as he ever was. His sarcasm and ego are just as sharp, rather that it has been blended into the storyline in a more subtle way, instead of having him just spouting off gags every few minutes. With the character of Tony Stark being who he is, it would be too easy for the writers to steer the Iron Man story into ‘The Hilarious Robert Downey Jr. Show’. Although this would please the Iron-man-no-funny-any-more crowd, it would ruin the films and cheapen the performances.
The only ‘downfall’ of this movie, if you even want to call that, would be that it incorporates elements of the comics and the greater Marvel world – Like Agent Coulson finding Captain America’s shield in Tony’s workshop, and Tony then using it to make a pipe level. To fans of the franchise these will be a bonus, to regular movie-goers it might be an alienation. I would say, however, that the film can be enjoyed by those who know very little about the Marvel universe in spite of it.
Overall this movie really has everything. Anyone who likes the Action/Comedy genre will love this film. If you enjoy good acting and a bit of sci-fi, I cannot recommend this movie more. I would definitely say to make your own mind up about this film and not to take negative feedback as gospel, because you could be missing out on a great time.
