Product Description

The off-Broadway comedy-horror-musical hit that ran for years makes a successful transfer to film with a bevy of big-name cameos and two perfectly cast leads. Rick Moranis is the nebbish Seymour, who pines for flower-girl Audrey (Ellen Greene) while living in the basement of florist Mr Mushnik (Vincent Gardenia). Things start turning around for Seymour, though, after he buys a little plant during a solar eclipse, christens it Audrey II, and discovers that it likes to drink blood. Soon enough, though, Seymour finds out that Audrey II, now grown to epic proportions, is in actuality a "mean green mother from outer space" that is hell-bent on world domination. Based on the 1960 Roger Corman cheapie that featured a young Jack Nicholson, Little Shop boasts a hilarious, amazing score by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, who would go on to revitalise Disney's animation arm with The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. Greene, the lone holdover from the original cast, is a ravishing, goofy Audrey, whose awkward demeanour belies a voice that could knock Ethel Merman off her feet. She's ably matched by Moranis, whose lack of a singing voice is perfectly in sync with Seymour's nerdiness. And Levi Stubbs Jr of the Four Tops provides the low-down, nasty-minded voice of Audrey II; his rendition of the Oscar-nominated "Mean Green Mother from Outer Space" is a showstopper. As for those celebrity cameos, Steve Martin's sadistic dentist is a masterful creation, as is Bill Murray's masochistic patient; John Candy, James Belushi, and Christopher Guest also pop up. And there was never a lovelier and funkier Greek chorus than the three Motown-fuelled girls (Tichina Arnold, Michelle Weeks and Tisha Campbell) who appear throughout the film. --Mark Englehart, Amazon.com

This has to be one of the top films ever made. The plot of the film is the story of a nerdy, unsuccessful shop assistant, Seymour, who finds a mysterious blood-eating plant that brings him success and riches, only to discover it is intent on taking over the world. Add to this a naive heroine, scheming shopkeeper, sadistic dentist (Steve Martin at his best), and a host of cameos; you get a fantasticly worked musical black comedy that plays on the classic b-movie genre. With superb music from pre-Disney Alan Menkin (Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast) and lyrics and script from Howard Ashman, muscials rarely come any better than this. 5 stars barely comes near to doing this film justice…..buy it now!

If your into all that horror stuff…then change because this is not horror. It’s the best film that I have ever seen. It has so many songs that are so catchy you just can’t keep up. No matter how bad a singer you are try it it’s fun. A great film for the whole family to watch! So next time you go and buy plants make sure that there wasn’t just a total eclipse of the sun!

Sing-along-songs involved and always remember NEVER BUY A PLANT AFTER A TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE SUN!

If you haven’t seen this film, you haven’t lived!! This is one of those films that you can watch repeatedly and not get bored of it, and with a soundtrack that’ll have you reaching for the hairbrush and waking up the neighbours. The main attraction is Audrey II, the ‘mean green mother from outerspace’(voiced by Levi Stubbs), and with fantastic actors including Rick Moranis as the nerdy Seymour and Steve Martin as the sadistic dentist Orin it’s not a film to be missed!

“Feed Me, Seymour!” A nerdy florest and a singing plant… why would anyone watch that, probably because it’s one of the best films to have been released in the last 50 years!!!!Set in a Skid Row flower shop, owner Mr Mushnik and his two assistants Seymour Krelborn and Audrey find the business constantly going downhill until Seymour produces a wierd little plant (‘Audrey II’) that they display on the window all of a sudden the business becomes a roaring success! All thanks to the plant… and what does the plant want in return? yep, you guessed it: BLOOD!The film is a Sci-Fi / Horror / Musical / Black-Comedy / Love Story all rolled into one!The film based on a stage show based on a film is one of those rare movies that can be watched over and over again without getting boring. The songs are brilliant, the sets are fantastic and Audrey II is the most amazing puppet ever seen on celluloid!Another good reason to watch this film… Steve Martin as Orin Scrivello, D.D.S. (“The Dentist”) – He is one of the best characters in the film. Also watch out for John Candy, Bill Murray (“It’s your profesionalism that I respect” – funniest line of the film), Christopher Guest and James Belushi. If only they released this DVD with the alternate ending (WOW!) it would be perfect!

The cast is also superb, Rick Moranis is perfect as Seymour and Steve Martin turns in a hilarious performance as the pain inflicting dentist. There are also several cameo appearances from the likes of the great Bill Murray and John Candy. The DVD has some good special features including deleted scenes, outakes and an excellent “Making of” documentary. All in all, a great film and one which I’ll never get tired of watching!!!

Entertaining horror/comedy/musical directed by Frank Oz starring Rick Moranis (Ghostbusters) as Seymour Krelborn, an orphan who lives and works in a florist shop run by Mr Mushnik (Vincent Gardenia). Seymour dosen’t have much going for him apart for his love of exotic plants and his secret love for shop assistant Audrey (Ellen Greene). One day he is sold a strange and interesting plant by a chinese man, after a total eclipse. Taking it back to the shop, he finds that the only way to make it grow is if he feeds it drops of blood! Soon the plant, named Audrey II, is growing and talking (!) and demanding more blood. Flesh, human blood. Seymour finds himself in a dilemna – should he give the plant what it wants and make all his dreams come true?If you don’t take it too seriously, which lets face it you can’t, then its a very enjoyable, laugh out loud film. Some wonderful effects and brilliant casting including Steve Martin as Audrey’s sado-masichist dentist boyfriend (just don’t watch him work if you are afraid of the dentist!), John Candy as weird Wink Wilkinson the DJ and Bill Murray as a dental patient who just loves pain. Some nice song and dance numbers will have you tapping your feet and put a smile on your face.

This 50′s-style musical/comedy/satire is sure to put a smile on your face and have you rockin’ to the tunes. Rick Moranis stars as Seymour, a clumsy, nerdy florist who secretly pines for his ditzy co-worker, Audrey. Seymour gets a mysterious plant that amazingly brings him fame and fortune, but it grows at an alarming rate, and it drinks… blood. What is Seymour to do?Rick Moranis gives his best performance to date as the quintessential loser who melts your heart. He has that puppy dog face and over-sized glasses, and a lot of talent. In the film’s funniest scene, Steve Martin plays everybody’s nightmare: a sadistic dentist (with Bill Murray as his too-willing patient). There are a lot of fun, bouncy songs, plenty of laughs, and some touching moments, too. Heartily recommended.

This little gem of a musical cannot be recommended more. It stars Rick Moranis as geeky Seymour, a guy whose totally in love with his sweet co-worker Audrey. However, she is in a relationship with an abusive dentist. When a talking plant appears from outer space though, things have got to change for the better, right? An astonishingly original concept – which was actually borrowed from the horror original by Roger Corman, with an early appearance by Jack Nicholson – is brought to life by Frank Oz, director of The Dark Crystal and Bowfinger, also starring Steve Martin. The songs are outstanding and are performed with much gusto by the leading actors, particularly Ellen Greene, who reprises the role of Audrey which she played in the stage version. The film was not a huge success when it was first released, but has rightly established a cult following since then. Long may it continue!
