If you are looking for an amazing war film you have found your place.
Saving private ryan is a very heart-warming film following men in the army.

This is by far one of the best war movies ive ever watched, So much action and killing aswell! Everyone looks very realistic. There is alot of gore if you are squeamish of it.

Worth a watch, On blu-ray nice HD Audio quality. The general guaility didnt improve that much.
Well worth the money
5/5

It's SPR, the clarity of the Blu-Ray is superb, but I was caught up in the recall of the defective media, so have had to send it off to get it replaced. Not that I'm worried as I watched the movie all the way through and could not see nay faults!!!!
Still it's nice to know that when a product recall is done, it's done quickly.
Cannot fault the film, cannot fault the quality, so for me, it's been a great purchase!

This film rocks and blu ray just improves on a film that will stand the test of time, if you have never seen this film and have blu ray it is a must have. The opening seen as they hit the beach will leave anybody moved and shocked, each acting performance of the the individual characters shines. The cinamatography is outstanding and as graphic as you can only expect from the genius that is Spielberg.

Excellent transfer and exceptional HD sound

Having just watched this i am very impresed whith this bluray the picture quality although little grainy in places is fantastic, as noted in another review i noticed things in the film that i had previously missed due to the quality of the picture. The thing that really blew me away however was the DTS HD audio track, it is so detailed and precise flinging bullets, shells dirt and all the other noises that war produces all over the 5.1 set up i have accurately, putting you right there on the beach with them at the beginning. For me this bluray has brought this film back to life and is a must for any Bluray collection 5*s from me

Specs:

1:85:1 Anamorphic widescreen

English 5.1 DTS HD- Master Audio

French 5.1 DD
German 5.1 DD
Italian 5.1DD
Spanish 5.1 DD

Edit: Amazon recalled all early copies of this due to a problem with the lip synching in one of the chapters.Tthis issue has now been resolved and all copies are problem free!

I cannot believe there are people out there reviewing a product who do not know anything about the history of it.

Speilberg said at the time that he deliberately filmed it with a grainy feel and all the other complaints voiced to make it feel periodic.

Please watch the extra's it will probably tell you that.

Next thing you'll be complaining about the Blu-Ray transfer of Schindlers list because it is not in colour!!!

This film is argulably the greatest war film ever made and looks fantasic on blu ray. I had this film originally on VHS, then DVD and now blu ray and it's never looked as good as this. Those complaining of grain within the picture should bear in mind that the grainy, saturated picture is exactly as Speilberg intended. This is how it was purposely filmed to give it a specific look and feel. That aside, the level of detail previously unseen is stunning and demonstrates how great blu ray is - can be - over it's DVD counterpart. An absolutely stunning film to be sure with some of the most devastating and realistic combat scenes ever filmed, most notably the celebrated opening sequence, and is more than recommended on blu ray.

Having seen the other reviews on here i would totally agree with some of the comments already expressed. Iam very impressed with the Blu Ray picture quality although it is a little grainy in places but it does not detract from the overall viewing experience. I too noticed detail in the film that i had not previously been able to see in my DVD copy and the colours are more richer. As for the 5.1 DTS sound it is absolutely mind blowing on my set up. It really puts you in the action with the explosions and bullets flying around the room. This is a must have purchase for your Blu Ray collection and a real step up from the DVD version.

Rating
Firstly, the film. The film itself (as most of you will already know) is a classic, it sets a standard for World War II films as most WWII films before it didn't show the horrors of the d-day landings to it's full extent. The Longest Day was probably the truest to this form, and as a result that became a classic and still is. If you were not aware this film was competing with The Thin Red Line for most of the Academy Awards including best picture (even though neither of them won) and rightfully so, both are breathtaking films and I struggle to see which is better! Both are up there in my top films so check out The Thin Red Line as well.

Now, the Blu-ray transfer. I watched the film on a HD channel, before the release of the BD, in Australia and I was just swept away by the improvement in the picture quality and the BD is even better! It may seem as though I'm not being critical enough of the film as some have pointed out the blurring at some seconds of the film. But seriously, there is nothing to be critical of! The blurring at some points was intentional or due to the cameras (which would have made the blurring effect intentional) so it gave the film authenticity and made you feel as though you, yourself were there. Our eyes blur from time to time and t does work. Some say that the DVD did not contain the effects, well as this film has been my favourite film since i was 12 (I'm now 19) I can safely say that they were there and I'm fairly sure that they were intentional. Everything you could want for an improvement is in the BD; iris colour depth, flowers in fields down to the details on the soldiers clothing and the rain. Every aspect has had an improvement.

The sound has had a noticeable improvement also. Rain, bullets, rocks falling, shells fired, it sounds so real. Bless you DTS HD!

This has to be one of the biggest improvements in picture and sound from an older DVD to BD that I have seen to date.

Bravo Steven! Bravo Tom!

My copy arrived today (24th April) and I've just watched it.

I can honestly say it's quite the experience on BluRay and a definite improvement from the DVD. Never one to short change us, this two disc set also contains special features from BOTH DVD releases.

The picture itself can be a little soft at times, but only very infrequently. On the whole it's a very well presented picture. Plenty of detail, some little bits and pieces I'd only noticed upon watching this version, and this is my favourite film. The colours have been altered ever so slightly and are much richer, but I think that's largely because there's much more resolution with HD.

The DTS-HD soundtrack is phenomenal. I've heard this film in standard NICAM on VHS, Dolby 5.1 on the original DVD release and in DTS on the 60th Anniversary 2-disc re-release. The HD soundtrack presented on this feature blows all these out the water and it's almost formidable in it's power. It's aggressive, but never overbearing. Dialogue is clear and consistent throughout and the rear channels get a thorough working over.

If you've got any precious trinkets on mantlepieces or shelves I'd glue them down, as the LFE on this will shake, rattle and roll the plaster of the walls with enough volume. If you have neighbours, and you like them, best forewarn before watching. If you don't like your neighbours, or are detached (like me) crank this up and get in the war.

In summary, an excellent addition to the collection and worth every penny. If I could give it ten stars I would, as it's also my favourite film ever!

My copy arrived today (24th April) and I’ve just watched it.

I can honestly say it’s quite the experience on BluRay and a definite improvement from the DVD. Never one to short change us, this two disc set also contains special features from BOTH DVD releases.
