The argument will rage long after the boxset of The Simpsons: Season Nine has been released about when exactly America’s finest television animated export actually peaked. Some arguably, with genuine gusto, that it was a year or two before this series was first shown. Most purists though satisfy themselves that it’s the single digit seasons where the best of The Simpsons, and there’s certainly plenty of gold in this latest set. Boasting twenty five episodes in all, and backed up by the superb selection of extras we’ve come to expect from Simpsons boxsets, there are some terrific episodes to be found. The 200th episode of the show, for instance, "Trash Of The Titans" makes compelling viewing out of, literally, sanitation, while "The City Of New York vs Homer Simpson" is likewise outstanding, as Homer trots off to recover his car. Truth be told, for this reviewer’s money, The Simpsons: Season Nine isn’t the equal of the two boxsets that preceded it, and it certainly has its fair share of easily forgettable episodes. But these are still in the minority, with the bulk of this set being as representative of the great writing, humour and wry observations we’ve come to expect from The Simpsons. Cracking value for money, too.--Simon Brew

This Is A Super Series (By No Means The Best) But After This We Have Just Season 10 To Look Forward To After That That’s About It With Only About 1 Good Good Episode Per Series But Thats For A Later Date……
Here We Have A Great Set Of Episodes Which Include Homer’s I’ll Fated Trip To New York, Bart’s First Day Of School, Marge’s Real Estate Job (Which Includes The First Apearence Of Gil) The Trillion Dollar Bill & Of Course Armen Tamzarian….Plus Many More. You Will Enjoy This Series I Can Guarantee

One of the best seasons on The Simpsons so far, although not upto the same standard as seasons like 6, 7 and 8. Included are some terrific episodes like; The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson, Trash of the Titans, Lisa Sax and Realty Bites. Easily one of the true classic seasons of The Simpsons. A definite purchase for any die-hard, avid or devoted Simpsons collector or fan.

I hope (and expect, since they are full seasons after all) that the first episode of the series, ‘The City Of New York Vs Homer Simpson’, will be included as that episode’s rarity is worth buying the whole season. It was never shown on terrestrial television, as it was to air just a week or so after the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the episode sees Homer entering the World Trade Centre. They also edited out part of ‘Lisa The Simpson’, when the family are watching a program called ‘When Buildings Collapse’, and Bart consequently states “My favourite part was when the buildings collapsed”. If these are edited out in any way, especially since these happened long before the event took place, then this is not worth the money even for the excellent episodes like ‘The Trouble With Trillions’, ‘This Little Wiggy’ and ‘Girly Edition’, along with the not-so-great ‘Principle And The Pauper’ which is almost completely forgotten about afterwards (apart from an episode in season 15 or something where Lisa’s cats keep dying). Overall though, an excellent season, but not one you should buy if the aforementioned 9/11 similarities are excluded out of political correctness.

**UPDATE: The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson was finally broadcast on Channel 4 in 2007.**

so fox continue with their habit of releasing two simpsons series a year. and even though they’re on the tv constantly i’m still wishing they would get the finger out.
anyway series 9 has good news in that the epsiodes are in the main (more of that later) of the highest quality. the acid test of course is the treehouse of horror ep – this series has that immortal line from homer re bats – “they’re in my hair!” elsewhere there’s the usual tales of springfield’s citizenry as they go about their daily business (or not); moe falls in love and ends up landing homer in jail (“must kill moe. whee! must kill moe”). apu finds out he is to be married, seymour skinner turns out not to be who everyone thinks he is (homer’s brain: “keep looking shocked and move slowly towards the cake”) and the simpsons have a couple of carnies stay with us (“can you do that again?” “not for a while”)
there’s also of course the u2 guest appearance (where they’re outdone by steve “you’re screwed, goodnight” martin – as per moe, he’s not really one for speeches). also worth a mention is the krusty ep, just love the way his hair comes free of its binds every time the ad guys mention the word free. he might be talking the bill hicks style talk but in the end he can’t walk the walk, ensuring one of the more memorable closing sequences in praise of the ‘canyonero’. another fave moment, one that for me encapsulates homer perfectly, try the $trillion ep where he pauses in his rescue of burns to place a prone agent’s hand on his colleague’s ahem, posterior
so to the bad points. first a minor quibble: no self-respecting scotsman i know would ever use the ‘s’ word – it’s football or nothing. i doubt then that groundskeeper willie or any of his compadres would either.
the second is slightly more serious. yes, this is the one; the all-singing, all-dancing nightmare episode. usually i tolerate the songs in the simpsons cos i know they’ll be over soon but a whole damned EPISODE of them is too much to bear. this is one episode that will never sully my screen.
the rest will of course, often too

Season 8 i think is the best but 9 is pretty great too. my faves are lisa the simpson, where she thinks she got the simpson gene of becoming dumb
marge: wake up honey ive got great news.
    Lisa: im adopted.
    Marge: even better.
and lost our lisa which has some of my fave lines. Lisa wants to go to the museum but after bart glue novelties on his face marge takes bart to hospital leaving lisa to con homer into letting her ride the bus.
Homer: Feeling stupid i know i am.

    while breaking into the museum
Homer:Can you open the window honey, the cops have daddy’s prints on file.

This is the last series of the simpsons where the quality is consistent throughout the run, after which the episodes are very hit and miss. With series 9 we get the best run of episodes ever. The stand out ones include: The city of new york vs. Homer simpson, treehouse of horror viii, the cartridge family, the two mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons, lisa the skeptic, dumbbell indemnity and trash of the titans and while the remainders are not as memorable, they are still better than most of the later offerings. My favourite episode of the simpsons is also present within this series, with it being dumbbell indemnity – in which homer is asked to ‘steal’ moe’s car – this is because it contains one of the best visual scenes in the show, where homer jumps out of moe’s car, roles over a rock and is forced back into it as it goes over the edge of the cliff. Series 9 also has some great gags – the motorboat one spring to mind. As well as this there are some good lines by homer himself, these include:’That’s it i am getting out of this city alive even if it kills me”Wow that was a nice candy bar i wish i was eating another one right now (sees apu and apu’s mother arrive at the simpson’s house) oh crap!”Now can i please have my motorboat”Oh i don’t know marge trying is the 1st step towards failure”Where’s christmas? (Starts to weep) lisa where’s christmas?”Oh they have the internet on computers now!”Must kill moe!! Weeeee!! Must kill moe!!!!’And my favourite of the lot:’(Sings) up, up and away in my beautiful, my beautiful motorboat, da, da, da, da.’
In all; if you don’t own this and you like the simpsons then you should buy it, it’s definitely worth a watch, well if i am honest more than one watch – it’s so good. Now before i ramble some more i will end this review as my boating arm is starting to hurt!
